Reel Progress is pleased to announce the inclusion of indie sci-fi horror comedy FIRST MAN ON MARS in Philip Smolen’s 4th Annual PS Awards. Naming FMOM as one of the eight incredible indie movies of 2016, the Rogue Cinema film critic says Lyddon fills the movie with wonderful touch points to classic drive-in cinematic fodder and he even names some of his characters after actors, writers and directors from those drive-in days (including Fritz Leiber, Don Dohler, Martine Beswick and Caroline Munro). Gory and goofy, “First Man on Mars” is a pizza and six pack masterpiece! Watch in NOW on Amazon!

In the latest review of our humble little sci-fi horror comedy, Bloody Flicks film critic Andy Wheeler draws a few connections to early Roger Corman films including Little Shop of Horrors and Creature from the Haunted Sea!
“The film is clearly an homage to Shlock horror and Director Mike Lyddon nails the look and feel of a Roger Corman film. The film is quite funny in parts and the gore level is decent enough even though the FX are a little ‘cheap’ they suit the film’s style perfectly.”
Philip Smolen, writer and critic for Rogue Cinema, gives First Man on Mars a rousing review in the latest issue.
“..writer/director Mike T. Lyddon opts for the silly and the sly wink from the opening credits, and this light touch helps the film merrily bounce along. Gory and goofy, ‘First Man on Mars’ is a pizza and six pack masterpiece.” Read the full review on Rogue Cinema by clicking HERE.
The UK’s fine genre site, HorrorScreams VideoVault reviews “First Man on Mars” and declares it The Incredible Melting Man of the 21st Century. Horror film critic Peter Hopkins goes on to say that First Man is An enjoyable film for those who like to watch campy flicks in the same vein as the 70’s grindhouse features or just enjoy B-movie style creature features.
Youtube review of First Man on Mars from Brit reviewer Jonjo Lyons who gives the film 7 eye popping head hugs out of 10! He goes on to say that residents of Tromaville would be proud and that he enjoyed the practical effects. He also gives a good primer of exploitation – grindhouse flicks from the 70’s.

Fine review of FIRST MAN ON MARS from CLUB DES MONSTRES, the amazing French genre site devoted to science fiction, horror and fantasy films.
Site is in French, but here is the core of the review in English – “Presented as a satire of small budget films with monsters presented in the American drive-ins in the 70s , the film is light and funny . Full of references, the coroner whose name is Fritz Leiber is a classic writer, popular movies and series of endorsements of its kind in that scene is reminiscent of the classic Hammer – Quatermass. The name of the cosmonaut, Cologne, recalls Carroon in Quatermass and we are obviously dealing with a fan of science fiction and B-cinema. All the characters are caricatures , except perhaps Porscha , the Bullets and Bimbos model that has a bit more brains than expected. The cast seemed to have fun. Some gore effects accumulate at the end of film while bikinis remain in place. Ideal for an evening with friends, pizza and beer.”
The first review of the feature film FIRST MAN ON MARS from MORBIDLY BEAUTIFUL is great!
“..it’s those practical effects — which are at once remarkably well done and intentionally cheesy and self aware — which make FIRST MAN ON MARS such a joy to watch, especially for fans of super low budget drive-in grindhouse creature features from the 1970s.”
